Surface-mounted spotlight or spike light?

A surface-mounted spotlight is attached to a wall, pole, or ceiling and can be adjusted along multiple axes. A spike light is inserted into the ground via a ground spike and is easy to move. Spike lights are useful for gardens that are still developing or for temporary setups.

IP rating for outdoor spotlights

For outdoor use, a minimum of IP44 is required. For spotlights that may come into direct contact with water, such as by a pond or in the ground, choose IP65 or higher. All outdoor spotlights in our range meet the minimum outdoor standard.

Outdoor spotlights in the In Lite system

In Lite has a range of adjustable outdoor spotlights for the 12V system. The SCOPE collection is the most popular: compact spotlights that you connect to the In Lite cable. Available as a ground spot, surface-mounted spot, and spike light.

Frequently Asked Questions About Outdoor Spotlights

What is the difference between a surface-mounted spotlight and a ground spike spot?

A surface-mounted spot is permanently fixed to a wall, post, or ceiling and is usually adjustable. A spike spot is inserted into the ground with an earth spike and is easy to move. Spike spots are more flexible; surface-mounted spots give a neater and more permanent result.

How many degrees can an outdoor spotlight tilt?

The tilt angle varies per model. Most adjustable outdoor spotlights tilt between 30 and 60 degrees. With the In Lite SCOPE series, this is adjustable during installation. Check the product page for the exact angle.

Which outdoor spotlight is suitable for illuminating a tree?

For trees, ground spotlights or spike spotlights are most suitable as they illuminate from below. Choose a narrow beam (spot, 10–15°) for a tall tree or a wider beam (flood, 30–60°) for shrubs and low-lying plants. The In Lite SCOPE is a popular choice for this.

Can I mount an outdoor spotlight on a fence?

Yes, surface-mounted spotlights are suitable for mounting on a fence or wall. Choose a model with at least IP44 and check if the mounting is suitable for the material of your fence. With 12V, you don't need an electrician.
